The live audio interview from Terceira will be available
for you to listen to and will be here soon. We apologize
in advance, but the audio is in Portuguese only. However,
someone from a forum was kind enough to translate and give
us the gist of what was said. The content below is courtesy
and permission granted to post here by CDP:
I just heard the interview on KIGS by Manuel
Ourique. I will be the first to take my hat off to the guys.
WOW!!!!
Very positive things were said about them. Manuel Ourique the radio program's
director was at the bullfight and said that the California Forcados did
just as well as the Terceira group. The gentleman who organized the event,
(can't remember his name), said things turned out better then expected.
The interviews began with Manuel from So Cal. who made quite an impression
with me as to how the crowd and locals received the group.
Paul recapped his pega including the first try in which he was on the head
and his "cu" hit the ground and the interviewer agreed with everything
he said and added that with the force of the hit on the ground, anyone
would have let go. They then discussed the 2nd attempt and concluded that
it was a very good grab.
Frankie was next and spoke in English. Said he had never before experienced
the silence prior to his grab last Saturday. He said when he lined up
his bull he was more worried of the crowd than the bull. He also recapped
his grab and the interviewer declared it was a Terrific grab. And the
crowd of 4,000+ responded with a standing ovation and curtain call!!!
A few others spoke, I can't remember all of their names, but one that
stuck out for me was I believe Donny (?) Lemos from So Cal. Said it was "an
honor" to grab in Terceira and was happy to have "turned that page in
his life". He thanked everyone at the bullfight and everyone in Terceira
in general for their hospitality and courtesy. He said he had "goose
bumps" when they first got in the arena and will never forget that moment.
Near the end Manuel from Tulare spoke and thanked everyone as well. He
was asked when he would hang up his jacket. He said he did after last
Saturday, he just didn't want to do it in public. The interviewer disagreed
and said that is not the way it is done, you have to grab at least one
more and then hand things over to a new Cabo. Manuel laughed it off and
said there was a lot of work to be done with his group when he gets back
and they would see what happens next.........
NOTE from Webmistress: Just
an FYI, the director thought Frankie did such a good job, that
he asked Frankie to walk around the arena by himself this time....
hence the "curtain call". ..... this was told to me by a friend,
who is family of the So Cal team.
Also from the same source, Manuel Correia was
second in line to assist Paul Toledo with his grab.
Way to go So Cal and Tulare guys!
