Our Million "Dollar" Bullfighting Horse is going to Portugal
Our Million "Dollar" Bullfighting Horse is going to Portugal by Diva Webmistress
For some time now, we have resisted writing on our site about one of our best and bravest bullfighting horse, Dollar, leaving for Portugal. Personally, it would not have been a choice. It is like selling one of my children. However, business is business, so “se la vie”.

Since Luís Rouxinol let the cat out of the bag, guess it was time for us to do the same, but the thought would not have been until Dollar safely arrived in Portugal. Dollar is in Oklahoma and is expected to arrive in Portugal on or around the eighth of December 2006.

Born in 1994, 12 year old Dollar came in our home 11 years ago (Oct 1995), purchased by the Cardoso brothers (Raul and Marcelino), from the late Jens L. List, Jr. of the Double Bar S Ranch in Moreno Valley, California . Dollar's birth name is "My First Alibi" and comes from a line of great racing horses, such as "Sir Alibi" and "Streakin' Six", just to name a few. "Dollar" is actually a nickname given by the bullfighters due to his dollar sign ($) brand located on his left shoulder. The original name given was "Rapaz" (pronounced "hapash), meaning 'boy'. The name Dollar just set well and he proves to be a "million" dollar bullfighting horse. Dollar and the day he was purchases commemorates Raul's very first bullfighting horse. It is one of the reasons why "parting was sweet sorrow". Raul is a full-time aficionado of bullfighting and dates back to when he was a tot on the Açores Island. So owning Dollar as his first horse was especially important to him, and proved to be a great investment.
One could say that Dollar is the luck of the draw. At first, he showed no real signs of a bullfighting horse, aside from his physical traits (his head and body physique). His head looked like a Lusitano (Portuguese) horse, and his body built "Ford tough". In addition, his mind showed intelligence. Nevertheless, as they worked and trained with him, his true colors sparkled and Dollar grew to be the exceptional horse he is today. Dollar is highly regarded as one of the best bullfighting horse noted by each of the Cavaleiros that has had the privilege of riding him, including but not limited to Vitor Ribeiro, Vasco Taborda, Jr., Antonio Ribeiro Telles, Felipe Gilberto, Patricia Pellen, Rui Salvador, Brito Paes, Rodrigo Santos, Rui Fernandes, and Luís Rouxinol.
All have inquired to purchase Dollar; just never thought this day would come. Top bullfighters in Portugal have coined Dollar as being the "craque" horse, and if a bullfighting lottery existed, you could say that Luís Rouxinol is the lucky winner. Craque is a term used by professional bullfighters meaning "brave & exceptional" bullfighting horse.
Dollar is a legacy on his own and will forever be a part of our family. If you have never had the opportunity to see Dollar in action, you still have the chance to do so. Luckily, we have videos of Dollar bullfighting on our website, for all to enjoy.
We at Ranch Cardoso congratulate Luís Rouxinol for being the new owner of one of the bravest bullfighting horse one could ever know…. Dollar.
