FIRE KNIFE OF SAMOA CELEBRATES WORLD’S HOTTEST COMPETITORS AT WORLD FIREKNIFE DANCE COMPETITION
4th Annual Fire Knife of Samoan Competition Expected to Be Record-Breaking
Anaheim, CA – August 2007 - The heat is searing, the sparks fly high, and the knives are sharp enough to cut through skin and bone. No, this is not the scene at your local restaurant’s kitchen – it’s the 4th Annual World Fireknife Dance Competition held each year at the Pearson Park Amphitheater in Anaheim, CA. Recently this has been deemed the world’s “hottest” event, and this year is expected to be hotter than ever as competitors converge from around the world to show their skills and wow the crowds on August 18th & 19th.
The fire starts burning early with the preliminaries of the World Fireknife Competition on Saturday, August 18. Show starts at 6:00 pm and competition at 6:30 p.m.
Each performer will put his skills to the ultimate test along with entertainment from the World-renowned Nonosina Polynesian Group. Competitors only wear short lava-lava wraps around their waist and use no protective skin oils while acrobatically twisting and twirling the fire-lit knives at breathtaking speed, in positions that frequently brings the flames in direct contact with their body.
Fire knife dancers rely on flawless dexterity, perfect execution, undying stamina, and exquisite timing in completing their program. The expert panelists judge according to compulsory and technical moves, along with their creativity, pacing, and dramatic interpretation
The Samoan word for "fire dance" is Siva Afi. This unique form of entertainment is purely Samoan; it began with Paramount Chief Letuli Olo Misilagi also known as "Freddie Letuli".
Letuli had a passion for his Samoan culture and a great desire to pass on his knowledge, skill, and love of the Siva Afi, the fireknife dance.
Because of this desire, the Letuli Family formed the Fire Knife of Samoa Non-profit Organization, stemming from Flaming Sword of Samoa, an association that hosted the first annual American Samoa World Fire knife Competition. This three-day event occurred in May 2003, just two months before the "Father of the Fire knife Dance" passed on.
Pre-sale tickets are available for purchase for $12 online at www.fireknifeofsamoa.com and $15 at the door.
It is a blessing for us to share his passion with you
