Konni shouldn't worry too much about anything Lyn Sherwood says. Sorting the wheat from the chaff in Lyn's posts has been my daily bread these past seven years now. He often just writes the first damned thing that comes into his head, without thinking what's behind it. He has fixed ideas that he hasn't re-examined in half a century. He calls the forcados fornicados, and then confesses that one thing he'd like to be himself is fornicado, if I'm right in thinking what he understands by that word. But there is no malice in Lyn Sherwood. Anyone interested in a short, readable introduction in English to the festa brava in Portugal -- which is not bloodless, as the farpas and bandarilhas, the long and short irons, have points which pierce the skin -- could do worse than consult my very own article "West of Badajoz", published in La Divisa several years ago now. Reading it thru, I find little in it that I want to change. I seem to have had a firm grip on the main issues. I'm attaching the text to this post, but I think Stanley may have to remove it. I can send it directly to anyone who asks me for it (at the.pin2@wanadoo.fr). It is designed as a general introduction to taurine Portugal for English-speaking aficionados of the Spanish corrida. I know of nothing comparable in English taurine writing, which is a bit of a condemnation of English taurine writing.
