With the desire to
maintain musical homeland traditions, local Portuguese immigrants
gathered to form the Azores Band of Escalon in 1980.
For 25 years, the Filarmonica has been playing
at festas, bullfights, and other Portuguese community events.
Known for their energetic performances and wide variety of pasodobles at the
bullfights held in the San Joaquin Valley, the Azores Band of Escalon
is considered to be one of the best bandas taurinas in California
and was voted the most popular Filarmonica in California for 2004. |

Azores Band of Escalon is currently under the Direction of Terry
Silveira with Assistant Director Frank Martins. Their band consists
